Viehhofen is a municipality in the district of Zell am See (Pinzgau region) in the state of Salzburg at 856 meters above sea level in the middle of the Glemmtal valley, through which the river Saalach flows. The capital of the valley is one of the most famous ski resorts in Austria, Saalbach-Hinterglemm. To the east at the entrance to the valley you will find the village of Maishofen.
The Glemmtal valley is surrounded by the Kitzbühel Alps, known in this part as the "Pinzgau grassy mountains". The village is surrounded by these mountains, in the southwest Oberer Gernkogel (altitude 2,175 m) - the highest point in Viehhofen and in the southeast popular and known to the Czechs Schmittenhöhe (1,965 m).
The ski area called Skicircus is the largest ski area in Austria and one of the largest in the world. The cable cars connect not only several ski areas, but also two federal states of Austria - Salzburg and Tyrol. In total, you can enjoy 270 perfectly groomed slopes. Many snow parks, free ride skiing, winter hiking trails, cross-country trails, apres ski bars and many other attractions await you. In the future, another cable car is planned from Viehhofen to the top of Sonnkogel (Skicircus), with a new cable car from Viehhofen to Zell am See already in operation.
