A small island in the Zadar archipelago, northwest of Zadar. Area 22 km2, 860 inhabitants. It lies on the southwest coast of the island of Pag near the mainland. From the Privlaka peninsula, the island of Vir is separated by a 3 m deep and 300 m wide strait that is bordered by a modern bridge. The main center of the island of Vir is the village of the same name lying in the wide sandy bay of Sapavac. Especially after the bridge was built, Vir is widely visited by the inhabitants of Zadar as a weekend recreational site.
Beaches mostly pebble. The landscape is flat, rather pine.
In the center of the capital of Vir, a small riviera is created along the one-way Šetnica Jadro.
In the west of the island there is a section called Crvena Zemlja, which means red country. It is the most interesting part of the island, where tourists are watching the spectacular sunset. Rocks and earth are red as in Australia. The coast is rocky and broken by waves. The best sandy beach is hidden nearby, it has to go along the field road. It has the name Uvala Dubok Drago and has gradual access to the sea.
Tranquil and secluded pebble beaches can be found in the southwestern part of the island. Here the Adriatic Sea is crystal clear and the landscape has a Mediterranean character. However, it is necessary to count a considerable amount of sea urchins, so bathing is only possible with footwear. Beautiful beach nooks offer Uvala Beach, from this beach you can see the magnificent Villa Lanterna Lighthouse.
